I'm now playing Rosalind in As You Like It w/ Act Out! Productions at the Narrows Botanical Garden out in Brooklyn. There's been so much drama with it already (which, living with the director, I get to know aaaaall about) - but I think it's all settled now and we can get into rehearsals in earnest. I'm super excited, and plenty nervous, about playing such an iconic, revered (in my mind) role. I need to just set aside all my doubts/fear/preconceived notions and do the work I do - trusting in that. Because I know my Rosalind will be fantastic. I'll be posting show details here and on my News page soon, so be sure to check back!
I'm also in an experimental theatre piece called Marilyn Monroe Meets Shakespeare, with Abstract Sentiment Theatre Co. We had our first rehearsal last night and I'm pretty stoked. Keep an eye out for more details :)
Summer Solstice came and went and apparently brought with it all the hot weather! It's supposed to be in the 90s for the next three days. Good times.
Somehow this apartment is still a complete ruin - even though I keep cleaning and picking things up. An endless battle. I should write a poem about it. It would be epic..........................................................
Ode To The Abode
The front line defenseless,
Enemies surround.
Bugs rise from the corpses on the fallen battleground.
An endless battle wages,
The good not giving up.
Though hope seems lost and unachieved
They’ll never count the cost.
The freshly cleaned scattered on the ground,
The dishes piled high.
The garbage can reeks of unknown smells,
Oh wait, that’s last week’s pie.
Wilting flowers, crusted food,
The cat hair that abounds,
Will I ever rise again
And beat this battleground?
Umm, guys - that's the first poem I've written since, I think, highschool. Booyah! And the first thing, besides blogposts, that I've written in a good long while. I've missed my inspiration.
I haven't been eating much these days, so I haven't really tried any new recipes. Mainly I've been munching trail mix or edamame. I'll be sure to post food pictures and a new recipe in my next blog, though.
I took up Muay Thai - Thai Boxing/The Art of 8 Limbs. And it's awesome. I'm not great at it, but it's a fantastic, sweaty workout that really helps me connect back to myself. I enjoy punching and kicking - and it's great getting to use my elbows and knees to attack as well. Though I'm not sure I'll ever get the hang of proper Muay Thai kicking - I'm already so used to how dancers kick, it's a completely different thing. Think I can overcome my dance training in this area? I've also taken yoga a few times in the past two weeks - it's actually been pretty neat.
Well, that's what's been going on in my life recently. Working, rehearsing, working out, doing a LOT of walking, memorizing, etc. etc. etc. Not bad. Though I can't wait for the day I'm getting paid a liveable wage from my acting.
I leave you with this British brilliance:
